Green Speaker as Settle Methodist Church gains silver Eco Church Award
On Sunday 6 March St John's Methodist Church, Settle will be welcoming Pam Martin as their guest speaker for the morning service at 10.30am
This month (March 2022) St Johns achieved their silver Eco Church Award for carrying out environmentally friendly activities. They gained their bronze two years ago
Pam Martin is an assessor for A Rocha for Gold Awards. She has a wealth of experience from assessing other churches, so we hope she will be able to give us some ideas of what we can do at St John's.
Pam now lives in Edinburgh, but still does work with Levens Church in the Lake District, and will be combining her visit to Settle with a visit to the Calisle Diocese Synod at Penrith.
St John's church extend a welcome to anyone in Craven concerned about green matters, and to other churches in the area that are working towards an Eco Church award.
"The tick box system for Eco Church - looking at church life, buildings, church life etc - has been very helpful in encouraging us to be proactive in doing things," says Judith Allinson, a member of St John's Church, "from carrying out a transport survey of church and hall users to setting up our pledges bottle. Our eco-group will be organising more trips through the year - the first one this month is to visit Allerton Waste Recovery Park near Knaresborough on the A1."
Pam Martin is a former teacher. When she taught in Germany last century she was very impressed how far ahead of us the German churches were in expressing concern for, and Caring for, the beautiful world that God has made. She has since taken part in horticultural courses and written and spoken on behalf of A Rocha
